Organized clubs and activities give students the opportunity to be well-rounded individuals, to explore areas that cannot be explored during the school day, and to learn more about working in group situations.  Activities meet from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. on designated days.  Activity buses operate Monday through Friday.  The buses depart Laredo at 4:20 p.m.  Laredo ’s activities include the following:

Drama Club

Students are involved in the social, technical and performance aspects of theater.  They have two productions each year.

Math League/Math Counts

Every week from September to December, math lovers meet to practice problem solving and deductive thinking to extend math curriculum taught in the classroom.  Once a month, teams travel to other middle schools and compete against same grade peers.  From December to March, students prepare to take part in the National Math Counts Competition.

Minecraft Club

Students have fun playing the hottest interactive social networking game on the Internet using a special version of Minecraft for education, MinecraftEDU. Students, click here to sign up for an after school Minecraft session.

National Junior Honor Society

This organization rewards excellence and promotes service and leadership through various projects throughout the school year.  Eighth grade students who meet academic criteria are invited to apply for membership in the fall of each school year.

Student Council

Student Council encourages leadership, responsibility, organization and civic consciousness.  Skills taught include organizing activities, public speaking and student advocacy.  Activities include student body elections, dances and service projects.  Student council is comprised of an executive committee and student representatives at each grade level.

WEB Leaders

As a WEB Leader, students get to participate in the rewarding experience of mentoring incoming 6th graders and helping them acclimate to middle school.  WEB Leaders help with 6th grade orientation, Back-To-School Night, and peer tutoring among many other fun activities.

Students will learn to use E-Design and Photoshop to create the Lionstale, Laredo Middle School ’s yearbook.  Students are responsible for the content (pictures, captions, and all text), layout and organization of the yearbook.  Consistent attendance will be critical as students are responsible for meeting publishing deadlines.

Pride Choir

Pride Choir is open to all students at Laredo who have an interest in vocal music. Students in Pride Choir will work on both solo and ensemble singing to improve singing technique and music-reading skills. Pride Choir meets once or twice a week during trimester one and then students transition to being in our all-school musical. For more information, see Ms. Ingolia.
